Have you ever had a friend, or group of friends, for that matter, that confide something with you they don't want the other member of the group to know?

Well, that seems to be my situation these days. I have an extremely great group of friends. Very close friends to be precise. I met up with these friends about a year and a half ago whilst working with them at the same company. We became very close throughout the year and ended up going our seperate ways when I left the company. About the same time I left, another one of the "crew" went to another company. Eventually, 3 of the other members left the old company and joined the other member to work together again at the "New" company.

Time passed, I got canned at my company. I was offered some contract work at (guess where?) but their company. Again, we (the crew) would all be working together again. Things seemed to go over well for about a month when one of them told me he was moving but not to tell the others. He didn't want them to make a big deal out of it, as he was moving "alone". Not such a big deal, people move on, right?

A couple of days went by, questions were asked. I kept my promise. I didn't tell any of the others what was going on. Then the grilling came. It so happens I don't sit in the same office with the "crew" member that is moving. I sit with two of the other members. They proceed to interrogate me about whether or not one of the others is moving. I plead the 5th, obviously this entails guilt. Oh my, now it's suddenly the time to explain why I promised one of the others to keep a secret from the rest. Phew! Now I'm in deep shit. I get the whole guilt trip about how secrets are not supposed to be kept between friends, and how if there is something to hide, it's best left unsaid. Now, I realize they were joshin' me, a little more seriously than they should have, nevertheless; joshin' me.

Now the question I pose to you (the reader), Where am I so wrong? Is trust not the whole basis of friendship? It's not like I would tell someone if You told me a secret.
