A while back, mike.irwin took a similar shot and I really dug the idea. I was lucky enough to have some nice evening light pouring into the park, but it didn't last very long, as the line of houses blocked my sunset very quickly.

Sherri and I took Liam to this fantastic park in Coppell yesterday (Andy Brown Park) and let him play in Pirate Castle. It was his first time there, so among all of the shots of him I took, I decided to grab this too. The castle is huge and craftsmanship is superb!
Sorry this one took so long to get up! It was quite a busy day cleaning house!

I had planned to try my hand at some water drops last night, but alas I remembered I let mike.irwin borrow my speedlights! So I pulled out the trusty guitar and decided to use it for some more macro work.
I'm very pleased with the result.

Once again using the light that pours in from our western window, I lit up a geode and a small pyrite crystal behind this polished/etched crystal globe.
The Sun and Mercury came out just as I was expecting, though I'm not that excited about the globe itself.

I took quite a few shots yesterday and was disappointed that the one I was really trying to capture didn't turn out. Even though I spent about 100 shutter clicks on it. I'll try again today and see if get anything useful.
On the way back from shooting those, I noticed the light was hitting this little bush in our front flower bed in such a way that it would make for some really nice bokeh. I took a few frames of it and here's one of the better ones I was able to come up with.

An Ice storm rolled through DFW (and much of the rest of the US) yesterday. Unfortunately, I had left my car out of the garage. The automatic opener is broken and I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet. When I went out last night to pull the car in the garage, it had some really nice icicles hanging over the wheel wells. I broke out the macro lens and took some long exposures, which is why you see the motion blur at the bottom of the icicle.

I am very lucky to have married such a wonderful and smart woman. You see, Sherri is a geologist and has an obsession with rocks and fossils. There is no shortage of cool old stuff laying around our house. Last night when I was having trouble being creative, I decided to take one of her fossils and try out some macro shots with it.
This fossilized fish (Diplomystus) is sitting in a block of oil shale that she dug out of a quarry in Utah.
We have about 5 of these laying around the house in various places, in various forms of completeness. This one just happens to be the most complete fish fossil we've got.
Yesterday my home was host to a Silpada Jewelry party. My wife was being kind to a friend that sells it and offered some friends wine, cheese and a cozy home to congregate in.
After the party, the western sunlight was pouring through our living room illuminating the jewelry (in this case a silver ball bracelet) with wonderful warm light. I purposley "bokehfied" this one because of the very fractal type of images I was getting.
Pretty neat.

Being only 22 months old, my son has got the "music" bug. He can't go 5 minutes without asking to play his drums or my "di-taow".
I was quite behind on Saturday when trying to get my daily shot, so I pulled out my old takamine acoustic and just after taking this shot, Liam came over and started strumming. It's pretty funny to see him try to play a guitar that's so significantly larger than he is.
I have a few of him playing, but opted to post this one instead. Perhaps I'll post some of the "outtakes" later on.
