In reports on Democrats.org as early as March 21, the GOP have refused the requests of the Federal Elections Committee (FEC) for a $5.5 million additional budget over 2 years for election-reform."
Yesterday, Florida Governor Jeb Bush, brother of President George W. Bush, signed a comprehensive election-reform bill allocating $32 million for the state of Florida, as reported in the Orlando Sentinel. According to the report the provisions will include:
Requiring counties to use "optical-scan" voting machines by fall 2002, effectively eliminating punch cards and chads from Florida's election landscape, and providing $12 million to fund the switch.
Create statewide standards for all recounts.
Provide $6 million for voter education and $2 million for a centralized database of voters.
This is good news for the people of Florida, as well as the people of the United States. However, I must digress. This is simply a case of cover up and too little too late.
It is apparent that the Bush brother?s fixed the election process in Florida to benefit W. Whenever I have seen reports of recounts and the numbers show specifically that Gore would have won the state, I get a collective shut up from the Bush backers.
I have been screamed and yelled at that I need to get over it and move on. Why in the hell would I do that? This is my country and I was rooked. The best man for the job, and the man who did win by popular vote and should have won by Electoral College for you that think that is an effective way to be fair, lost due to interference by not only the election committee in that state, but also the governor and brother of the elected.
At least something positive is being done. It?s just too bad for W. that he will lose in the next election.

Note: GOP Email Alert!
There is an email currently circulating which makes the false claim that George W. Bush won more votes than Al Gore in the 2000 election. This is simply not true. After adding up the numbers from each of the Secretaries of State nationwide, Al Gore won the popular vote by more than 494,000 votes. Do not let the far-right forget -- or change -- the truth.
