Well, th3space is busy, and I'm up working (kinda) so I guess I'll throw together this weeks Music News. I know it's a little late, so don't bitch! And remember, it's my first time treading these waters so lemme know what you like/don't like. Without further adieu, the news.
Thursday Nov. 29th @ 16:30, the "Quiet Beatle", George Harrison passed away in Los Angeles among friends. George Harrison along with the other 3 members of The Beatles inspired and pioneered most of the music we listen to today.
Rich Banning has left Rx Bandits citing differences with the recording industry. What a way to sum up what everyone seems to be thinking these days.
Drive Thru got a makeover.
Recently Timmy of punkbands.com had the chance to talk with Joe of Rise Against and 88 Fingers Louie fame. Check out the interview here
Dan writes: Atari`s "Anywhere But Here" is being rerelased on Jan 1st, 2002. The reason is because Kris and the band were never really happy with the sound and didn't think it sounded like an Ataris record. There will also probably be 2 or 3 brand new songs on it.
And finally, Enough Fanzine reports "The Louis Armstrong cover song will be the first track off Joey Ramone's solo album Don't You Worry About Me which he was working on so hard until his early death in April 2001. The single is supposed to be released in early 2002. According to a Ramone's spokesman, the single won't be available in Europe."
Rivers says the next Weezer album will be out in early 2002 or "heads will roll." The band is experiencing some difficulty however, "Chaos. We are making a record right now, but we are no longer speaking to our label. We have no idea what is going to happen, but the record will come out one way or another." But those who were unhappy with the Green Album will be pleased to know "We were kind of disappointed with with the lack of rock on The Green Album. The fourth record is going to bring back the rock... Let me clarify that, we're going to bring back the heavy metal. We're substantially more Judas Priest-like now."
Lagwagon is not, I say not, breaking up. According to their website, they are taking a break until their scheduled recording sessions in March/2002, and have signed on to play the whole warped tour coming up next summer.
It has been announced that U2 has been chosen to perform at the half-time show of SuperBowl XXXVI (that's 26 for you loser's that don't know them darn X's and V's). 130 million, yes as in 13thousand/thousand) are expected to tune into the broadcast on February 3rd of 2002, with about 800 millions viewers worldwide. I just wish Chomsky would open for them, then they'd be heard by damn near everyone! And they would all finally know "What time it is."
Apparently James Hetfield has gotten a bit tired of rehab and decided to join his bandmates again. Though still without Jason Newsted who left the band in January of 2001, Metallica is working on a new record expected to be released in the fall of 2002.
Well, it turns out that DallasObserver.com is a friggin slow site, so I'll try to sum up what's going on over there, since we're "That much Faster".
The "North Texas New Music Festival" turned out to be a huge success this year, beating out big named tour acts such as Spiritualized and Pete Yorn with a huge demand for seats (or stand I should say).
Pinkston Will be releasing it's first full length album in February. I heard these "guys" (I quote that because I was drunk and I think the lead singer was a girl. Ha! j/k) last year sometime at the Hardrock when the edge was doing it's "Sessions" at the venue, and they kicked ass. Oh, and sometime that might make you pick up the disc when it rolls around. Apparently for the next few shows, while they look for a new bass player (no they didn't kick anyone out, Beth Clardy [bassist/singer] is giving up [wo]manning the bass, to concentrate more on her vocals) Todd Lewis (formerly of The Toadies) will be manning (yes, it is without the "wo" this time) the Thunder Stick.
The Deathray Davies just released a new 7" on Has Anyone Ever Told You? based out of Austin. Buy/Listen/Love/Buy again. We need to show those fucking major labels that we don't need them.
A little old, but left out. Congratulations are in order for the folks over in the Valve camp. They were added to regular rotation on Channel 52 of the new XM Radio. The song currently spinning is Drained
