Fingercuff / Pop Unkown

Friday night something strange happened in Dallas. There was actually good music playing, and a show worth seeing. I know you're probably thinking "I hear good music every weekend". Well you know what, you listen to shit so go back to your crappy dance club and stop reading my review. Now for the people who actually have taste, this is for you.

The night started at the Galaxy Club with a band I had never heard of called Fingercuff. I was asked to go see them by a friend who had been asked by a friend and so on. While most of the audience seemed to enjoy screaming about how much the band sucked, I was quite impressed. Here was a group of kids who actually had it in them to get up on stage and have fun despite what everyone else thought. I'll agree with everyone else that they did lack in a lot of areas, but they were up there playing so I could give the time to hear them. So if you guys happen to read this here's my advice. First off, spread out the change-ups. Yes they are great and can completely change the mood of a song, but if it's overdone, it stops being a song and just becomes four guys banging on their instruments. Either drop a couple or make your songs a little longer to make enough room. Second, put a little more effort into working on your vocals. The screaming was great and that's a good start, but you need more and at this point the lead singer's voice just wasn't cutting it. I'd recommend taking a step or two back from the microphone and try it from there. For the most part Fingercuff put on a good show, and has potential so I would go back to see them again.

And now on to what made the night great. Despite the obstacle of a dickhead bouncer and an expired license I managed to get in the show through the Art Bar entrance. Pop Unknown played one of the greatest sets I have ever seen. In just forty-five short minutes they were able to make up for the complete lack of decent shows there have been in the area for the past month. In conclusion, if you weren't lucky enough to see them, go buy their new album "the August Division" and even if you were there go pick up a copy anyway.
